How Much Are 500 Marriott Points Worth?

Updated · By the WanderWise editorial team

500 Marriott Bonvoy points are worth about $3.50–$4.50 on hotel stays in 2026, at 0.7–0.9¢ per point. A leftover balance — far short of any award night, but worth keeping alive.

What 500 points realistically does

Five hundred points is what a single short stay or a few weeks of card spending tends to leave behind. It will not book a night on its own: even the bottom of the select-service range we measure (15,000 points at Courtyard- and Fairfield-type hotels) is 30 times larger. What it can do is sit in your account and grow, or shave 500 points off the top-off on a free night certificate.

Nights 500 points can cover

Marriott has priced award nights dynamically since its award chart ended on March 29, 2022, so there is no fixed price per hotel. These are the points-per-night ranges we measure by property type; the night counts include Marriott's Stay for 5, Pay for 4 benefit and assume a similar price each night.

The Points Guy has reported nights of up to 150,000 points at Marriott's most aspirational luxury hotels — above the luxury range shown here. Before you book, divide the cash rate by the points price: above about 0.9¢ per point is a good redemption, below about 0.7¢ means paying cash is usually better.

Using 500 points with a free night certificate

Since March 12, 2026, Marriott lets you add up to 25,000 points to a free night certificate (up from 15,000). Adding your 500 points stretches each certificate this far:

Transferring 500 points to airline miles

500 points transfer to about 166 airline miles at Marriott's 3:1 ratio. The 5,000-mile transfer bonus only starts at 60,000 points, so a transfer at this size gets the plain ratio. That only beats a hotel redemption when you have already found a specific award flight.

Our recommendation for 500 points

Do nothing with it except keep the account active. Marriott points expire after 24 months with no account activity, and any earning activity resets that clock. Cashing out for a gift card is the worst option at this size — you would turn $3.50–$4.50 of hotel value into $2–$2.50.

Frequently asked questions

How much are 500 Marriott points worth?

500 Marriott Bonvoy points are worth about $3.50–$4.50 on hotel stays, at 0.7 to 0.9 cents per point (The Points Guy values Marriott points at 0.75 cents as of September 2026). Redeemed for gift cards they are worth only about $2–$2.50.

How many free nights can I get with 500 Marriott points?

None on their own. The cheapest select-service nights we measure start around 15,000 points, and Marriott has had no award chart since 2022. 500 points can still be added to a free night certificate (up to 25,000 points per certificate) to reach a more expensive hotel.

Can I do anything with 500 Marriott points?

Not much on their own — 500 points will not book any award night. Keep them: Marriott points only expire after 24 months with no account activity, and any stay or points-earning card purchase resets the clock. If you hold a free night certificate, you can add points to it, so even a small balance can reduce how many points you need to top one off.

Can I transfer 500 Marriott points to airline miles?

500 points transfer to about 166 airline miles at Marriott's 3:1 ratio. The 5,000-mile transfer bonus only starts at 60,000 points, so a transfer at this size gets the plain ratio. That is usually worth it only when you have already found a specific award flight that needs the miles.

Have a different balance? The Marriott Points Value Calculator values any amount up to 300,000 points by redemption type.
