The Marriott 50K Free Night Certificate: What It Books and How to Use It
Updated · By the WanderWise editorial team
A Marriott 50K certificate pays for one night at a hotel pricing at up to 50,000 points — or up to 75,000 if you add the maximum 25,000-point top-off Marriott has allowed since March 12, 2026 (One Mile at a Time).
What a 50K certificate books
At 50,000 points, the certificate covers a full-service night (Westin, Sheraton) on almost any date — 50,000 is the top of the 30,000–50,000 range we measure — and any select-service night.
With the maximum 25,000-point top-off it reaches a 75,000-point night, the lower part of the 60,000–100,000 range we measure at luxury hotels such as The Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis.
Ranges are the points-per-night figures WanderWise measures by property type; Marriott has had no award chart since March 29, 2022, so search your dates to see the real price.
How you earn it
- Marriott Bonvoy Bevy (Amex) ($250 annual fee): After $15,000 in purchases in a calendar year (One Mile at a Time)
- Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful (Chase) ($250 annual fee): After $15,000 in purchases in a calendar year (One Mile at a Time)
Card welcome offers are sometimes paid in certificates at this level — The Points Guy's July 2026 guide described a Boundless offer of three free night awards worth up to 50,000 points each (The Points Guy). Offers change.
Top-off math
Points you add are worth 0.7–0.9¢ each, so a top-off pays when it unlocks a night worth clearly more than the points spent. Examples for a 50K certificate:
- +5,000 points ($35–$45) → a night priced up to 55,000
- +10,000 points ($70–$90) → a night priced up to 60,000
- +16,000 points ($112–$144) → a night priced up to 66,000
- +25,000 points ($175–$225) → a night priced up to 75,000
Rules to know
- Expiry: generally a stay within 12 months of issue, with no extensions (One Mile at a Time).
- Fifth night free: certificate nights don't count; you need five points nights on the reservation (The Points Guy).
- For someone else: the certificate can't be gifted (One Mile at a Time) — see the certificate hub for the details.
- Resort fees are not covered (The Points Guy).
Best use of a 50K certificate
Save it for a hotel pricing between about 40,000 and 50,000 points on your dates, or top it off into the luxury range. Because 50K certificates usually come from spending $15,000 in a calendar year, treat the spend as the real cost: it only makes sense if you would put that spending on the card anyway.

Frequently asked questions
What can a Marriott 50K certificate book?
One night at a hotel pricing at up to 50,000 points that night, or up to 75,000 points if you add the maximum 25,000-point top-off. At 50,000 points, the certificate covers a full-service night (Westin, Sheraton) on almost any date — 50,000 is the top of the 30,000–50,000 range we measure — and any select-service night.
How do you get a Marriott 50K free night certificate?
From these co-branded cards: Marriott Bonvoy Bevy (Amex) ($250 annual fee), after $15,000 in purchases in a calendar year; Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful (Chase) ($250 annual fee), after $15,000 in purchases in a calendar year. Card terms change, so check the issuer's current benefits.
Can you add points to a Marriott 50K certificate?
Yes. Since March 12, 2026 you can top off any Marriott free night award with up to 25,000 points, up from 15,000, so a 50K certificate can book a night priced at up to 75,000 points.
Can I use a Marriott 50K certificate for someone else?
Not by transferring it. One Mile at a Time says a card-issued certificate has to be used for a stay by the primary cardmember and cannot be gifted, though you can book two rooms for the same night in your own name with two certificates. Frequent Miler notes that award reservations can be put in another guest's name by booking and then calling Marriott, without your elite benefits. Confirm with Marriott before you rely on it.
