The Marriott 35K Free Night Certificate: What It Books and How to Use It

Updated · By the WanderWise editorial team

A Marriott 35K certificate pays for one night at a hotel pricing at up to 35,000 points — or up to 60,000 if you add the maximum 25,000-point top-off Marriott has allowed since March 12, 2026 (One Mile at a Time).

Used on a 35,000-point night, a 35K certificate replaces points worth about
$245–$315
at 0.7–0.9¢ per point · worth less on a cheaper night (no change given)

What a 35K certificate books

At 35,000 points, the certificate covers any night in the 15,000–25,000-point range we measure at select-service hotels (Courtyard, Fairfield Inn) and the lower part of the 30,000–50,000 range at full-service hotels (Westin, Sheraton).

With the maximum 25,000-point top-off it reaches a 60,000-point night: every full-service night in our measured range, and the 60,000-point bottom of the luxury range (The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis).

Ranges are the points-per-night figures WanderWise measures by property type; Marriott has had no award chart since March 29, 2022, so search your dates to see the real price.

How you earn it

Top-off math

Points you add are worth 0.7–0.9¢ each, so a top-off pays when it unlocks a night worth clearly more than the points spent. Examples for a 35K certificate:

Rules to know

Best use of a 35K certificate

Aim it at a full-service hotel on a date when that hotel prices near 35,000 points, or add points to reach a more expensive hotel. Don't spend it on a 15,000-point night: a certificate covers one night and gives no change, so the unused value is lost.

Frequently asked questions

What can a Marriott 35K certificate book?

One night at a hotel pricing at up to 35,000 points that night, or up to 60,000 points if you add the maximum 25,000-point top-off. At 35,000 points, the certificate covers any night in the 15,000–25,000-point range we measure at select-service hotels (Courtyard, Fairfield Inn) and the lower part of the 30,000–50,000 range at full-service hotels (Westin, Sheraton).

How do you get a Marriott 35K free night certificate?

From these co-branded cards: Marriott Bonvoy Boundless (Chase) ($95 annual fee), every account anniversary; Marriott Bonvoy Business (Amex) ($125 annual fee), every account anniversary, plus a second award after $60,000 in purchases. Card terms change, so check the issuer's current benefits.

Can you add points to a Marriott 35K certificate?

Yes. Since March 12, 2026 you can top off any Marriott free night award with up to 25,000 points, up from 15,000, so a 35K certificate can book a night priced at up to 60,000 points.

Can you extend a Marriott 35K free night certificate?

No. One Mile at a Time says a Marriott free night certificate is generally valid for a stay within 12 months of when it was issued, the stay itself (not the booking) has to happen before it expires, and the expiration cannot be extended. Frequent Miler has also reported Marriott changing certificate expiry dates without notice, so check the date shown in your account.
