How Much Are 1,000 Marriott Points Worth?
Updated · By the WanderWise editorial team
1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points are worth about $7–$9 on hotel stays in 2026, at 0.7–0.9¢ per point. Too small to redeem, easy to protect — and worth nearly twice as much on a stay as in gift cards.
What 1,000 points realistically does
A 1,000-point balance usually comes from one paid night at a lower-priced property or a handful of small card purchases. It is about one-fifteenth of the cheapest select-service night we measure (15,000 points), so there is no award it can book. Its realistic jobs are to stay alive until you earn more, or to cover a small gap when you are just short on a booking or a certificate top-off.
Nights 1,000 points can cover
Marriott has priced award nights dynamically since its award chart ended on March 29, 2022, so there is no fixed price per hotel. These are the points-per-night ranges we measure by property type; the night counts include Marriott's Stay for 5, Pay for 4 benefit and assume a similar price each night.
| Property type | Points / night | Nights with 1,000 |
|---|---|---|
| Select service Courtyard, Fairfield Inn | 15,000–25,000 | Not enough for a night |
| Full service Westin, Sheraton | 30,000–50,000 | Not enough for a night |
| Luxury The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis | 60,000–100,000 | Not enough for a night |
The Points Guy has reported nights of up to 150,000 points at Marriott's most aspirational luxury hotels — above the luxury range shown here. Before you book, divide the cash rate by the points price: above about 0.9¢ per point is a good redemption, below about 0.7¢ means paying cash is usually better.
Using 1,000 points with a free night certificate
Since March 12, 2026, Marriott lets you add up to 25,000 points to a free night certificate (up from 15,000). Adding your 1,000 points stretches each certificate this far:
- 35K certificate → a night priced up to 36,000 points
- 50K certificate → a night priced up to 51,000 points
- 85K certificate → a night priced up to 86,000 points
Transferring 1,000 points to airline miles
1,000 points transfer to about 333 airline miles at Marriott's 3:1 ratio. The 5,000-mile transfer bonus only starts at 60,000 points, so a transfer at this size gets the plain ratio. That only beats a hotel redemption when you have already found a specific award flight.
Our recommendation for 1,000 points
Leave it in the account and keep it active. If someone offers gift cards or merchandise for it, the math is poor: about $4–$5 of gift card value versus $7–$9 if you eventually put the same points toward a hotel night.

Frequently asked questions
How much are 1,000 Marriott points worth?
1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points are worth about $7–$9 on hotel stays, at 0.7 to 0.9 cents per point (The Points Guy values Marriott points at 0.75 cents as of September 2026). Redeemed for gift cards they are worth only about $4–$5.
How many free nights can I get with 1,000 Marriott points?
None on their own. The cheapest select-service nights we measure start around 15,000 points, and Marriott has had no award chart since 2022. 1,000 points can still be added to a free night certificate (up to 25,000 points per certificate) to reach a more expensive hotel.
Is 1,000 Marriott points worth anything?
Yes, about $7 to $9 when eventually used toward a hotel stay, at 0.7 to 0.9 cents per point — but only about $4 to $5 if redeemed for gift cards. It is too small to book a night by itself, so the best move is to keep the account active (points expire after 24 months with no activity) and let the balance grow.
Can I transfer 1,000 Marriott points to airline miles?
1,000 points transfer to about 333 airline miles at Marriott's 3:1 ratio. The 5,000-mile transfer bonus only starts at 60,000 points, so a transfer at this size gets the plain ratio. That is usually worth it only when you have already found a specific award flight that needs the miles.
