What 50,000 points realistically does

50,000 points is the top of the full-service range we measure (30,000–50,000), so it covers a Westin- or Sheraton-type night on almost any date. Spent at select-service hotels it covers three nights at 15,000 points or two at 25,000. It is also the level of the 50K free night certificate the Bevy and Bountiful cards award after $15,000 of spend in a calendar year — but that certificate is a separate award, not points in your account.

Nights 50,000 points can cover

Marriott has priced award nights dynamically since its award chart ended on March 29, 2022, so there is no fixed price per hotel. These are the points-per-night ranges we measure by property type; the night counts include Marriott's Stay for 5, Pay for 4 benefit and assume a similar price each night.

The Points Guy has reported nights of up to 150,000 points at Marriott's most aspirational luxury hotels — above the luxury range shown here. Before you book, divide the cash rate by the points price: above about 0.9¢ per point is a good redemption, below about 0.7¢ means paying cash is usually better.

Using 50,000 points with a free night certificate

Since March 12, 2026, Marriott lets you add up to 25,000 points to a free night certificate (up from 15,000). Your 50,000 points cover a full 25,000-point top-off with 25,000 to spare:

Transferring 50,000 points to airline miles

50,000 points transfer to about 16,666 airline miles at Marriott's 3:1 ratio. The 5,000-mile transfer bonus only starts at 60,000 points, so a transfer at this size gets the plain ratio. That only beats a hotel redemption when you have already found a specific award flight.

Our recommendation for 50,000 points

One full-service night or a short select-service stay are both reasonable. You are 10,000 points short of the 60,000 mark where airline transfers start earning the 5,000-mile bonus, so if you are considering miles, wait.
