Using a former SPG balance

Converted Starpoints are ordinary Marriott Bonvoy points, so the same rules apply: book hotel nights (Westin, Sheraton, W, St. Regis and the other former Starwood brands are all bookable with Bonvoy points), use five-night award stays to get the cheapest night free, or transfer to airlines at 3:1. Look up your converted balance on our Marriott points value by balance pages or run it through the calculator.

If you have not logged in for years, check the account first: Bonvoy points expire after 24 months with no account activity (Frequent Miler).

Frequently asked questions

How much is one SPG Starpoint worth today?

Starpoints no longer exist as a separate currency. Each one became 3 Marriott points when the programs combined on August 18, 2018, and Marriott points are worth about 0.7 to 0.9 cents each on hotel stays, so an old Starpoint balance works out to about 2.1–2.7¢ per original Starpoint.

How do I transfer SPG points to Marriott?

You no longer need to. Starpoints were multiplied by three and moved into the combined Marriott program automatically when it launched on August 18, 2018. The program was renamed Marriott Bonvoy in February 2019, so any remaining SPG balance is now in a Marriott Bonvoy account.

Do Starwood points expire?

Former Starpoints follow Marriott Bonvoy rules: points expire after 24 months with no account activity. If an old SPG account has had no stays or points-earning activity for that long, its converted points may have expired.
