Hyatt is the one exception to the flat 1:1 rule — since June 15, 2026 the Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred transfer to Hyatt at 4:3, while the Sapphire Reserve stays 1:1. Hyatt is still the standout — high-end properties book at fixed award-chart rates, typically the best value for Chase points.

Is transferring points to a partner better than booking through the bank portal?

Accepted Answer

Usually yes. A travel portal fixes each point at about 1 to 1.5 cents, while transferring to an airline or hotel partner can be worth 1.5 to 2.3 cents or more on the right redemption — for example Hyatt hotels or international premium-cabin flights. Transfers are one-way and irreversible, so only transfer when you have a specific award in mind and have confirmed availability.

Are all point transfers 1:1?

Most are 1:1, but there are exceptions. Amex Membership Rewards transfers to Hilton at 1:2 (you get double the points, each worth less) and to JetBlue at 1:0.8. Capital One transfers to JetBlue at roughly 5:3 and to Accor at 2:1. Always check the exact ratio before you transfer.

Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt Rewards both reach World of Hyatt. Bilt transfers at a full 1:1. Chase is no longer a flat 1:1: as of June 15, 2026 the Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred transfer at 4:3 (1,000 points become 750 Hyatt points) for new cardholders, with existing holders keeping 1:1 until October 1, 2026, while the Sapphire Reserve still transfers at 1:1. Amex, Capital One, and Citi do not transfer to Hyatt at all.

No. Once bank points move to an airline or hotel program they cannot be transferred back. Only transfer when you have a specific redemption in mind, and confirm award availability first.
